International Druglords’ “Slut Crush” is just the latest sleek, shadowy chapter in the ongoing evolution of mysterious songwriter/producer Vega Blackwell. The L.A.-based musician’s past work includes placements in The Twilight Saga and The Sims and time spent orbiting Trent Reznor. All of that informs the widescreen sensibility of Blackwell’s latest single.
Mixed and mastered by Doug Boehm (Girls, Ezra Furman), “Slut Crush” is a sleek, propulsive descent into obsession built on a relentless electronic pulse and cloaked in nocturnal textures. The accompanying video pairs the track’s hypnotic drive with imagery that feels both hyperreal and dreamlike.
“I’ve always been fascinated by the heavy, blurred state between dreaming and waking—that place where you wish you didn’t have to open your eyes, but you’re already half-gone,” says Blackwell. “‘Slut Crush’ exists in that friction. It’s about those few seconds where you’re lucky enough to live in both realms at once, letting the lust and the haze take over before reality fully kicks in.”
We’re proud to premiere International Druglords’ “Slut Crush.”
