MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Tory Silver’s “Boy Disco”

The latest single from Tory Silver is equal parts garage/rock burner and exposed confessional, barreling forward on blown-out riffs as it wrestles with its underlying emotional static. “Boy Disco” teases the upcoming In Through The Front With Lasers (Michi Tapes), its title a reference to a bandmate’s kidney-stone procedure.

The album was recorded in Los Angeles at the home studio of producer Melina Duterte (Jay Som), with additional work done in Pittsburgh, Silver’s hometown. The result is a deceptively bright collection of songs where dense guitars and sticky choruses mask deeper issues with no clean resolutions. “Boy Disco” offers the album’s clearest mission statement, capturing Silver in emotional freefall mode before she finds her footing in an unexpectedly stable place.

“The song stream of consciousness at heart,” says Silver. “The album is about moving forward in life despite the obstacles thrown our way, and ‘Boy Disco’ is where I just wrote down what I was feeling. By the end, it shifts into something more tender—a reminder of how important it is to have the right people in your life and a hope that everyone has that. And it’s a freaking rock song.”

We’re proud to premiere Tory Silver’s “Boy Disco.” In Through The Front With Lasers is out May 29.
