The lawyer laughed. “Well, let’s be honest. You did yell a bit.”
“I did not!”
“You said Jeff wasn’t the bloody gardener.”
“OK, if that’s your idea of yelling, you’ve had a pretty sheltered life!”
“If you say so, but the fact of the matter is, most men are tired of women who can’t control their emotions.”
“And most women are tired of assholes like you and their cowardly brother-in-laws!”
“Brothers-in-law,” the lawyer said, correcting Nadine who hung up instead of showing the guy what yelling actually sounded like. Her heart was pounding. She looked at the clock on the wall above the phone—9:30 a.m. and she still had quite a lot to get done before the museum opened at 10:00.
