Arcade Fire On Film

Bob Dylan released seven albums (including undisputed all-time classics Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde On Blonde) before he got the documentary treatment. Radiohead released only three LPs before being immortalized on film, but one of them (OK Computer) completely changed people’s perceptions of what pop music could be. So we’re surprised it took this long for someone to get around to making a movie about Arcade Fire, given all the band has accomplished: two pretty decent indie-rock albums, some fairly extensive touring and, uh, that Juno Award* for best alternative album (heck, they had to beat the likes of Holy Fuck and Wintersleep to win that one). So for all of you who didn’t know what to get the Arcade Fire fan in your life who has everything, Win Butler and the gang have got you covered. Miroir Noir, an Arcade Fire documentary directed by Vincent Morisset and shot by Vincent Moon (we can’t confirm if WWE chairman Vincent McMahon had anything to do with the film), is released digitally today. The 70-minute movie takes you behind the scenes during the making of the band’s second-best album, Neon Bible, as well as the tour that followed. (We also can’t confirm if there’s footage of Arcade Fire defeating Holy Fuck and Wintersleep at the Juno Awards.) Of course, there will be a deluxe DVD edition of Miroir Noir, which will be deluxe because it will feature bonus material and cost more than the non-deluxe version; it will be out next year, as will the regular DVD version. You can download Miroir Noir here, unless the site crashes as a result of all 49 members of the touring incarnation of Arcade Fire trying to purchase it at the same time.

*MAGNET has had to ID the Juno Awards as the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy Awards for 15 years now, and we’re sick of it. If you didn’t know that bit of trivia already, we can safely say it’s not our fault.
