What’s The Frequency, Brian?

briandeertickNBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams recently launched a music-interview program called BriTunes. The first video segment runs a little less than four minutes (not counting the Applebee’s commercial) and features Williams interviewing Providence, R.I., band Deer Tick. Let us be clear that Williams is our very favorite network anchor, and his appearances on The Daily Show and Saturday Night Live make him out to be the really cool dad who doesn’t have to pander to youth culture because he’s got other things on the grill. As for Deer Tick, they’re an alt-country complaint-rock band with grunge style. They call their fans Tickheads. Enough said. Analysis of the inaugural episode of BriTunes: Leave the indie-band interviews to the amateurs. This is nothing specific to Deer Tick, but Williams’ line of questioning goes fishing for humor, anecdotes and career expectations and comes up empty. It makes the band seem even more insignificant next to the charismatic Williams, who apparently is under the impression that Deer Tick is going to be a household name. Whoever bet on that eventuality is probably also hanging on to some rare 12-inches from the Rapture or a lock of Joanna Newsom’s hair. Brian Williams, return yourself to the big leagues—but before you go, wanna check out this new Wrens demo?

Deer Tick will be a household name. The fact that Magnet hasn’t figured that out yet is a testament to how out of touch your writers are, though I’m sure you’ll be ready and waiting with pen in hand the next time Pitchfork gives the next boring useless indie band a 8.worthless.
