I, Mack: Sir Mix-A-Lot On 24-Hour News

sirmix100eSir Mix-A-Lot may forever be linked to 1992 mega-hit “Baby Got Back,” but you’d be off-base in labeling him a one-hit wonder. One of hip hop’s ultimate DIY practitioners, he was a platinum-selling artist long before “Baby Got Back” introduced suburbanites everywhere to the glories of the big, bad booty. He founded his own record label, produced his own tracks, created a Seattle hip-hop scene from scratch and was among the first hip-hop acts to collaborate in the rock genre. These days, he is working on a new album due out next year and generally surveying a scene hugely influenced by the music he created two decades ago. Sir Mix will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all this week. Read our Q&A with him.

news23550bSir Mix-A-Lot: Paralysis by overanalysis certainly applies here. With cable news networks in need of a story to fill an otherwise boring weekday, they take the typical lukewarm political quote, call in 12 experts (usually writers from some rag) and dissect every single word. Then when the hour is up, here comes another show with a new host and a different spin on the same damn subject! However, this time they bring in the big guns! One Republican mayor from Yumnuts, Miss., and a Democratic ex-page from Nutsandgrain, Ore. One hour later, they call on the extreme guy/gal to break it down again with a corny joke and some supergeek passing judgment. That being said, I watch four hours a day.

One reply on “I, Mack: Sir Mix-A-Lot On 24-Hour News”

Considering the waste of cyberspace Sir Bores-A-Lot littered Magnet with this week, this post is deliciously ironic. Mind you I guess it proves his point; throw out a bunch of mindless drivel, and some vacuous asshole will read/watch it.

Shit, I just realized…. in this case, I’m that asshole.
