San Francisco’s Rubies blend the best elements of dance, folk, pop and rock into one smooth and unique sound. As if the diversity of influence in their music wasn’t enough, Rubies also features an ever-changing live lineup: Founders Simone Rubi and Terri Loewenthal often use different musicians at each show. Imagine a freak-folk Cut Copy and you’re about there, but the best way to get a feel for Rubies is to listen. “Stand In A Line” is catchy, danceable and brilliantly constructed, much like everything else off their debut, Explode From The Center (Telle), finally out in the U.S. after its release a year ago in Europe.
