In The News: Bob Dylan, LCD Soundsystem, Massive Attack, The Doors, Everclear And Free MP3s

bobdylanIn what sounds like some sort of Onion-style hoax, noted Jew Bob Dylan (pictured) is releasing Christmas In The Heart (Columbia) on October 13. Bobby D’s 47th LP, Christmas includes such rockers as “Here Comes Santa Claus” and “Winter Wonderland.” Bad idea? We’ll see, but he’s donating all of the record’s U.S. royalties to Feeding America at least … Commemorating the 10th anniversary of frontman Mark Sandman’s death, Morphine’s At Your Service (Rhino/Ryko, October 6) is a two-disc collection of unreleased studio tracks, alternate takes and live performances. Sandman suffered a heart attack onstage in Italy in 1999, passing away en route to the hospital. The band’s surviving members are playing a tribute show September 27 in Cambridge, Mass. … LCD Soundsystem’s 45:33 Remixes (DFA), a collection of, well, remixes of 45:33, a 2007 one-off effort for Nike released on iTunes (and eventually on CD and vinyl), is out September 15. LCD mastermind James Murphy is recording the follow-up to 2007’s Sound Of Silver, due next year … Trip-hop duo Massive Attack unleashes its fifth LP (currently untitled) in February. If you can’t wait that long, a four-track EP, Splitting The Atom (Virgin), is out October 6. It’s the band’s first new material in three years, making the 2010 release the second. Never let it be said that MAGNET doesn’t do the math for you … From the unnecessary boxed-set department, Rhino brings you Live In New York on October 6, six discs covering four 1970 Doors shows … Speaking of unnecessary, Everclear’s In A Different Light (429, October 6) features re-recorded versions of some of the band’s “greatest hits” in addition to two new songs. Do yourself a favor: Listen to the original version of “Santa Monica” and be done with it … The title of Led Zeppelin: Good Times, Bad Times, A Visual Biography Of The Ultimate Band (Abrams) pretty much says it all. But since we need to fill this space, the book features 200 rare and, in some cases, unreleased photographs by Ralph Hulett and text by Led Zeppelin scholar Jerry Prochnicky … On September 22, They Might Be Giants continues its alternate career as kiddie crooners with Here Comes Science! (Idlewild/Disney Sound), its fifth such effort. An upcoming tour will feature kids shows followed by sets for the adults later in the day. Download “I Am A Paleontologist” .. Ever wanted to see Danzig and Of Montreal on the same bill? Right, who the hell would, but just in case, the Fun Fun Fun Fest is set for November 7-8 in Austin, Texas. The Jesus Lizard is also playing, so all is not lost … Beginning September 10 in El Paso, Texas, the Revolting Cocks will be bringing their own brand of fun fun fun on their first-ever North American headlining tour (and first road jaunt in more than 20 years), dubbed the LuBriCaTour. (See what they did there?) They’re supporting Sex-O MiXXX-O (13th Planet), a remix of their March Sex-O Olympic-O CD. Download “I’m Not Gay (Blownload Prison Remix)”
