Athens, Ga.-based Spring Tigers were together for only four days before they played their first show, and barely a month had passed before they snagged a coveted slot at this year’s South By Southwest festival. With the hype building so fast, Oakland’s Bright Antenna label soon came calling, and Spring Tigers’ six-song, self-titled debut “mini album” is slated for release on Tuesday. Download “Just Suggesting” and “New Improved Formula,” which wouldn’t be out of place at the reception for a wedding of Ted Leo and Vampire Weekend.

Athens, GA? They sound like indie rock kids from my ENG 1010 class who talk with fake British accents. So cute! So annoying! Gold!
No kidding. And to think Bob Pollard used to be dogged by grumblings about an English-accent affectation in HIS vocals. Are these guys exchange students? (That’s actually a serious question.)
The lead singer is originally from the UK.
Indeed, Bill B. is correct. A quick Googlin’ reveals that Spring Tigers’ frontman is Kris Barratt formerly of UK band The Capes. So, as he sings on another track, “don’t get your knickers in a twist.” Glad he landed in Athens and found some solid musicians to play with!
I like their music. My little brother dances like crazy when ‘Car Song’ is played. Good musicians! Poppy tunes!
