Lambchop rarely tour the U.S., so any show it does here is a special occasion, but when the band played Merge Records’ 20th-anniversary festival this summer, it was something else. Kurt Wagner brought the largest performing lineup in Lampchop’s history. Eleven members strong, including a horn section, the band played a career-spanning tsunami of a set, starting small and building to its final song, stealing the show of the entire festival. If you’ve been kicking yourself for missing what was likely one of the best concert events of the decade, this might ease the pain. Lambchop Live At XX Merge is available now. The album features a download of the concert film, directed by Matt Boyd. Check out final song “Give It” below and watch the band tear the roof off Carrboro, N.C.’s Cat’s Cradle.
