From The Desk Of Thrice: Dinosaur Comics

THRICELOGOA dozen years into its career, Thrice is still evolving. Following 2005’s experimental/atmospheric Vheissu and four-part concept album The Alchemy Index Vols. I & II (2007) and Vols. III & IV (2008), the California quartet—vocalist/guitarist Dustin Kensrue, guitarist/engineer Teppei Teranishi and Breckenridge brothers Eddie (bass) and Riley (drums)—has issued the edgier, hard-rock-leaning Beggars (Vagrant). On paper, such a description might make you believe the LP is a return to the post-hardcore days of Thrice’s first three albums, though Beggars is far more mature and varied than that. Unfortunately, the record was leaked in July, forcing the band to change the release date and marketing plan for Beggars, but Thrice seems to have come out of all this extracurricular drama unscathed. As the foursome prepares for its upcoming U.K. tour, they are also guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our Q&A with them.

DinasourComicsDustin Kensrue: With Dinosaur ComicsRyan North has made one of my favorite things ever. This comic has the same six frames every day—only the dialogue changes—and it’s been going strong with a new one coming (almost) every weekday for more than six years. You can start from the beginning to gain more understanding of the characters or just start right in. Truth be told, I only know one person who enjoys it as much as I do, but you could be one of the ones who gets it, too! I have been known to laugh out loud while reading it. While there are only three characters actually shown in the frames, North finds ways of bringing God, the devil and a host of other characters into the mix at times. The topics dealt with range from philosophy and religion to video games and computer programming. And make sure you mouse over the comic after you read it (that’s where about the 30{e5d2c082e45b5ce38ac2ea5f0bdedb3901cc97dfa4ea5e625fd79a7c2dc9f191} of the humor usually resides). Also, I would read it in Google Reader or something similar as there is an archive tagline that you don’t see just going to the website. Here’s one that deals with euphemisms and Nintendo. Video after the jump.

A rare pleasure indeed, to have your problems set behind you and your future full of promise. Imagine if that Utahraptor slipped in the shower; he’d certainly wished he’d stomped that soap out of his way, much as I now stomp this little house, as he passed on. Perhaps, in his last moments, the irony of the situation from my perspective will become evident. Yes, I will freely enjoy stomping more, now that he’s gone.

I love qwantz 😀 I’ve had the full song on my itunes for just about 4 years.
