If you thought hip hop and classical were two musical genres that would never find common ground, well, think again. Master turntablist Rob Swift does the unthinkable on his new album, The Architect (out February 23 on Ipecac Recordings), by taking lush orchestral sounds and giving them a danceable makeover with backbeats and scratching. “Rabia (2nd Movement),” which you can download below, is just one example of Swift’s unusual compositions that challenge and push the boundaries of genre.
