Experimental folk straight from the U.K., Tunng’s latest release, …And Then We Saw Land (out in April via Thrill Jockey), may be its best yet. Tunng is known for innovation and avoiding cheap clichés, and the quintet’s “Don’t Look Down Or Back” pays homage to the band’s fondness for adventure with hints of hope. The song’s hypnotic intro quickly slips into mellow guitar, deliciously acoustic and calm. Soothing boy/girl vocals bring to mind the Summer of Love, later bursting into an outpouring of voices and wailing guitar. A melodic call to arms, Tunng’s latest is pure inspiration.
