Film At 11: Solex Vs. Cristina Martinez & Jon Spencer

Dutch electronic artist Solex (a.k.a. Elisabeth Esselink) has joined up with husband and wife (and Boss Hog members) Cristina Martinez and Jon Spencer to create an album. The genre-defying Amsterdam Throwdown, King Street Showdown! will be out May 18 on Bronzerat Records. The video below explains how this unlikely combination all came together, in the form of a comic strip starring the three artists as the musical superheroes they are.

I’ve noticed an alarming trend among net based music video publishers to use “vs. ” to mean “with”. That is just about 180 degrees off. “vs” is short for “versus” which means “against” so unless it’s a video of a rap battle for instance it’s wrong. Bad English. Please cease and decease!

The name of the project is Solex Vs. Cristina Martinez & Jon Spencer. They chose that moniker, not us.

Also, it’s “cease and desist,” not “cease and decease.”

Also, Esselink’s very first release (way back in 1998) as Solex was entitled “Solex vs. The Hitmeister,” so she obviously established the precedent of using “vs.” in her projects a long time ago.
