“Coquet Coquette,” off Of Montreal‘s forthcoming False Priest (out September 14 via Polyvinyl), starts with a beefy electric-guitar riff, interspersed with Foals-like plucking, keyboard squeals and experimental clattering that have become the band’s signature sound for the past two albums. Frontman Kevin Barnes’ androgynous vocals soften the hard-rock jamming. Like most of the Atlanta group’s music, the first listen is spent just trying to make sense of the chaos. By about the sixth go ‘round, you’re singing it in the car even when another song is playing on the radio.
