Robyn Hitchcock writes songs in his sleep. They have a dreamy effortlessness to them, like he just closes his eyes and they pour out. This year, he released his 17th solo album, Propellor Time, another splendid psych/folk record with the Venus 3, featuring R.E.M.’s Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey and Bill Rieflin, plus guest appearances by Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones and the Smith’s Johnny Marr. Hitchcock also recently started the “Phantom 45” series through his website, where he offers up digital singles for your virtual jukeboxes. The latest is by the Hungry Moment: Hitchcock along with the tender backing of two American folk musicians, fiddler Rayna Gellert and banjo player Abigail Washburn.
