MP3 At 3PM: Summer Fiction

Self-produced and self-released, the self-titled debut by Summer Fiction is the latest project from Philadelphia singer/songwriter Bill Ricchini. And it’s a bittersweet proposition, aligning its maudlin pop sensibilities with the likes of the Smiths and Belle And Sebastian. Wistfully demur on the surface, the tidy 11-track song cycle delves into everyday matters of the heart with an icy pair of forceps, leaving all manner of collateral damage in its wake. “Chandeliers” is the most perky and accessible of a majestically downtrodden lot, and its masterfully understated video is definitely worth a look.
