There’s an obvious-yet-subtle irony in Michael Kentoff’s gentle approach to songwriting. “Mr. Let’s Find Out,” the first single off the fifth album from the Caribbean, plays no different than the D.C./Baltimore avant-pop trio’s quirky discography: nearly-whispering vocals, space-like echoes, a five-four-three-two-one countdown and a witty dissection of the world. However, there’s a touch of expanded maturity and growth on Discontinued Perfume (due via Hometapes on February 22) that’s both reinventing and reassuring. Part Fountains Of Wayne, part Death Cab For Cutie (with a notch more sincerity), “Mr. Let’s Find Out” is an ode to what it was like to buy a record for the music, not the message. Download it below.
