The John Hillcoat-directed video for Grinderman‘s “Evil” features just two scenes, each simply executed all things considered, especially given that the director has on his CV the film adaptation of post-apocalyptic thriller The Road. But, these two scenes—one in which some sort of fish goblin floats in space, mutating as the song develops, the other of a small orange bird who flutters anxiously—mirror the tense, forlorn, devil-may-care darkness of the song magnificently. Hillcoat and lead Grinderman Nick Cave have worked together many times before, of course, which might help explain how the treatment conveys the heart of the song so well. “Evil” is taken from Grinderman 2, available now from Anti-.
