Adam Goldberg’s Heart Grows Fonder For: The Impossible Project

The Goldberg Sisters is the new musical project from Adam Goldberg, the always entertaining actor/filmmaker whose impressive resume includes the likes of Saving Private RyanDazed And Confused, Friends, Entourage, Zodiac2 Days In Paris and the Flaming Lips’ Christmas On Mars. The band’s 10-track, self-titled album (on Apology Music/Play It Again Sam) follows Goldberg’s 2009 musical debut, Eros And Omissions, released under the moniker LANDy. As with that project, The Goldberg Sisters finds Goldberg collaborating with Aaron Espinoza (Earlimart, Admiral Radley), though this time out, the duo was assisted by a handful of other musicians, including Goldberg’s girlfriend Roxanne Daner on violin. The result is a satisfying collection of effects-heavy, urbane psychedelia held together by Goldberg’s high-pitched, Lennon-esque croon. Goldberg will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our new Q&A with him.

Goldberg: They rescued a Polaroid factory. They (with original designer Paul Giambarba) repackaged unspoilt and beautiful 669s and TZ Artistics and Sepia 100s and cameras and merchandise from the defunct, Edwin Land-less Polaroid company, which now has something to do with Lady Gaga but little to do with what they did best. But moreover, these insane chemists and film freaks at IP have invented new integral film (for your SX-70, 600 series cameras; no peel-apart yet) that was dodgy to be sure at first, but their current versions are genuinely brilliant when exposed properly (or improperly, for that matter). It has little to do with Polaroids as you knew them except what they inspire in you. And they’ve only just begun. In a world of iPhone apps that mimic such, playing with the real deal feels like Xmas. Visit the store/gallery in NYC. Tell them Bob Larry sent you. They won’t have any idea what you’re talking about, but it might be funny since it’s two first names.
