Film At 11: TV On The Radio

The Brooklyn art-rock hipster darlings in TV On The Radio just released their latest album, Nine Types Of Light (Interscope), which is now also a movie that includes a music video for each of the tracks on the LP. All of TVOTR’s previous albums have had critics drooling, and this one proves to be no different. Lead singer (and NTOL film auteur) Tunde Adebimpe’s alternately tingling falsetto and cavernous growl plops the listener in a tiny boat amongst a squall of rumbling electric guitars and tsunami-stirring bass. The band busts out rapid-fire post-punk tinged with psychedelia and synthesized trip hop, illustrated by mind-bending color and images, as the hour-long film also takes you through a succession of New Yorker testimonials on love, success and dreams for the future. With their latest music/movie meld, the members of TVOTR show that they have not lost their touch when it comes to genre metamorphosis.
