On August 23, Merge Records is issuing Obscurities, a 14-track collection of rare and unreleased tracks from Stephin Merritt‘s 1994-1999 tenure on the label. Five of the songs are from Magnetic Fields seven-inches, while the rest come from various other sources, including a 6ths single, an audio book, the Oh, Merge compilation and a K Records cassette. Three of the five unreleased tracks are culled from The Song From Venus, an unfinished science-fiction musical written by Merritt and Daniel Handler (a.k.a. Lemony Snickett). One of those songs is “Forever And A Day,” which you can download below.
