Film At 11: Colourmusic

Self-dubbed “Oklahoma sex rock” quintet Colourmusic doesn’t claim its primary influence to be dream-trip staples like the Flaming Lips, experimental rock gods like Brian Eno or even the band everyone traces their musical roots to: the Beatles. As its name suggests, Colourmusic uses Sir Issac Newton’s Theory of Color to guide its melodious ventures. Following previous EPs, Yellow and Red, Colormusic just released their its, My ___ Is Pink (Memphis Industries). Although the colors are simple, the band’s music is not. Single “Beard” has a sonic topography like the Himalayas, with hardcore-fuzzing guitars and mumbling vocals descending into frantic plucking and rolling drums. The Requiem For A Dream epidermis/orbital close-ups during the entire video reflect the anxious energy of the track, causing a queasy viewer to reach for a different pink: Pepto Bismol.
