Count Richard Buckner In On This One: Grilling

This week, singer/songwriter Richard Buckner releases Our Blood (Merge), his first new music since 2006’s Meadow. The nine-track LP was recorded by Buckner at his upstate New York home studio with pedal-steel guitarist Buddy Cage (New Riders Of The Purple Sage) and drummer Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth). Buckner kicks off a co-headlining tour with labelmate David Kilgour (the Clean) on August 16 in Los Angeles. In the meantime, Buckner will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our brand new Q&A with him.

Buckner: Grilling is what I do to take me away from the outside world and my various internal enclosures. If I’ve been spending too much time in my work room and feel confused, I grill. If I’m unable to work and awaken to find myself watching CNN, I turn off the decomposing television and grill. I don’t have anything fancy, just a cheap Kingsford, but I treat it with respect, putting it under a tarp when it rains and pulling it out when I have a seemingly conceptual protein idea or hankering that can lead me away from the ills of the world for a few hours.
