A side project of sorts from two members of Cloud Nothings, the Ohio-based Total Babes emit a catchy punk/pop vibe with their debut LP, Swimming Through Sunlight (Old Flame). Funny that such perky music comes out of Cleveland, home of rusty belts, unforgiving winters and the Browns. Single “Be So True” is loose and bouncy, like a lo-fi version of Telekinesis. It’s a number you might hear in the last scene of a teen romantic-comedy flick where somehow the host of the Senior Bash manages to land the best band in SoCal as the night’s entertainment and Freddie Prinze Jr. cuts it up on the dance floor. It’s a great way to ride out the last wave of summer fun.
