It draws upon classic house beats, ’80s synth pop, disco and even some rock. While this genre mixing could be cluttered and disjointed in the hands of other artists, VHS Or Beta somehow combines these to create a truly fascinating LP. Coherent but different at every turn, Diamonds & Death is a step in the right direction for a band that’s been around for a decade.
