MP3 At 3PM: Standard Fare

If you’re tired of lovesick love songs for the loveless, you’re not alone. When producing sophomore LP Out Of Sight, Out Of Town (Melodic), Standard Fare wanted to go beyond themes of sad romances. The group challenges these tropes with “Suitcase,” an upbeat punk-influenced song about a loved one who survived the Holocaust. Full of roaring choruses, the song explores the human impulse to get up and sprint out the door. Appropriately, “Suitcase” does just the same: It bolts out of the conventional indie-female-vocalist-pop comfort zone. From the joyful opening chords to the final electric guitar riff, this group proves it’s not just standard fare.
