The title track from Beirut’s latest album, The Rip Tide (Pompeii), is big and beautiful, yet it’s also somehow otherworldly. Is it the music smoothly sliding from high to low? The ethereal group vocals floating above the entire song? It’s hard to say, but the new clip undeniably captures the essence of it. With a lone, unmanned ship in the middle of the sea, interspersed with shots of seagulls flying on with no sight of land, there’s a sense of the expansive and alienating. Suddenly, pools of color fall down from the sky, and something magical overtakes the scene. Watch it below.
