“I wanted to write a Christmas song that was closer to what I think the holidays are for a lot of people,” says Starlings, TN frontman Steven Stubblefield. “I remember vividly thinking that dry socks, smokes and a bottle of whiskey would be a hell of a Christmas gift … This song is set during the holidays, in and around a dysfunctional family, and you are getting to look at this family as if you’re a fly on the wall. There is a lot of holiday music I can’t stand. All that happy, cheery music is like nails on a chalkboard for me.
