From The Desk Of Marshall Crenshaw: Broken Toaster

MarshallCrenshawLogoAcclaimed power-pop master Marshall Crenshaw certainly knows how the music business works—or, in the case of many artists, doesn’t work. But Crenshaw is now waving goodbye to the traditional system, as the platinum-selling Grammy and Golden Globe nominee has decided to ditch the middle man and put out an EP subscription vinyl/download series. Thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign, Crenshaw will be releasing six 10-inch, three-track 45s within the next two years. The first one, I Don’t See You Laughing Now, was issued last month. Crenshaw will also be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week.

toaster

Crenshaw: About two years ago, Ione and I needed a new toaster. I searched in vain for an American-made toaster but gave up and bought this one. A couple weeks ago, it suddenly went belly-up. I looked for a small-appliance repair person in my area, but to no avail. At this point, I called the manufacturer and asked for the address of a service center to send it to, to which they replied, the service centers only did warranty work. They offered to give me a discount on a new one. I hung up.
Just last week in Michigan my mother gave us a Sunbeam toaster that she and my dad bought in 1956; it still works!
