From The Desk Of Tim Easton: Amigos De Las Américas

TimEastonLogoTim Easton has been singing and writing songs since he was 14 years old. He never considered another career. After finishing college, Easton hit the road with his guitar and spent seven years singing and playing on European street corners. When he got back to Ohio, Easton joined the Haynes Boys, a roots-rock outfit that made one album before breaking up. Free again, Easton picked up his guitar and returned to the road, touching down long enough to make nine albums that earned him a loyal following with their blend of gritty roots-rock and heartfelt songwriting. Every LP took a slightly different approach and his latest, Not Cool, shows off his love of rockabilly and early R&B. Easton will be quest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our new feature on him.

Easton: When I was 15 years old, my mom asked me if I’d be interested in participating in a program whereby I would be training for nearly a year in order to go to a Latin American country to work on various projects to help better lives. I jumped at the chance and before long I found myself giving immunizations to children in the barrios Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. It was an incredible summer, and I am still working out about how profoundly it changed my life. I gave D,P,T shots (diptheria, pertussis and typhoid) plus administered an oral polio vaccine. We had trained on each other back in Ohio, where they sent us to massive role-playing camps for the weekend. Local Latin college kids would portray the characters in order to prepare us for what was coming down the pike. The next summer, I went back with a friend from Akron just to skateboard around and drink beer.
