From The Desk Of Jon Wurster: Blundstones

JonWursterLogoTo call Superchunk drummer Jon Wurster “Superchunk drummer Jon Wurster,” while true, is a bit limiting. He also keeps time full-time (and tours constantly) with Bob Mould and the Mountain Goats, contributes hilarity to The Best Show On WFMU With Tom Scharpling and maintains one of the most reliably funny Twitter feeds. Superchunk is on the road supporting its 10th LP, I Hate Music (Merge); while traveling from gigs to home and to more gigs, Wurster filled some rare empty space in his hectic schedule by guest editing magnetmagazine.com this week. Read our brand-new Q&A with him.

Wurster: If all goes to plan, I will be found dead in a pair of Blundstone boots. Hopefully not for another 40 years, but I say this to illustrate that there is no other footwear for me. Laura Ballance turned me onto Blundstones during Superchunk’s first Australian tour in 1992, and I’ve worn them just about every day since.

Rugged yet stylish, these boots say, “I could hike a canyon or attend a Son Volt concert; I really don’t give a rip.” Blundstones last forever (I’m still wearing a pair I bought in 1999), and you can walk into any shop that sells them and get a free buff, as I did a few months ago in Brisbane. Most importantly, Blundstones slip on and off, which is very handy if, like me, you eat at high-class Japanese restaurants seven days a week.
