From The Desk Of Toxic Holocaust: Sizzle Pie (Portland, Ore.)

ToxicHolocaustLogoogoWith the new Chemistry Of Consciousness (Relapse), frontman Joel Grind expands the Toxic Holocaust sound, explodes it with color and textures that seem more vibrant than the none-more-blackness of 2011’s Conjure And Command. The speed and righteous indignation of artists like Discharge and G.B.H. combine with the massive mixdown and mastering by heavy-music maven and Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou, creating a juggernaut of an album, a record that fires on all cylinders all the time. “Awaken The Serpent,” “Mkultra” and “Out Of The Fire” smack the listener upside the head like the wayward boot of an especially surly crowd surfer. Bassist Phil Zeller will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our recent Toxic Holocaust feature.

SizzlePie

Zeller: OK, the West Coast—and Portland specifically—is not known in North America for being a pizza mecca. Sizzle Pie is not the absolute greatest pizza I’ve ever had, either, but it’s still definitely damn good! More important than just having really good pizza is the atmosphere in the restaurant itself. It’s just fun to hang there and enjoy a beer while stuffing pie down your gullet. Put some heavy tuneage on the heavy-metal-filled juke box and pick a slice of some amazing taste combinations with plenty of great options for the vegans. With meaty pie options named Rad Wings Of Destiny, Napalm Breath and vegan pies named Angel Of Doom and Raw Power amongst many others, you get an idea of the fun that can be had. Did I mention that it’s super cheap along with the beer prices? Two locations here and must-visit if you’re in town. You’ll love it!
