From The Desk Of Jason Narducy: Robert Pollard

Since having formed a punk quartet (Chicago’s Verbӧten, featuring Dave Grohl’s cousin Tracey Bradford on vocals) as a precocious 10-year-old, multi-instrumentalist Jason Narducy has kept busy with other bands (most notably Verbow) and as an in-demand sideman with the likes of Bob Mould, Superchunk and Robert Pollard. He’s also releasing his first solo record under the Split Single moniker, Fragmented World (Inside Outside). Narducy will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our brand new Q&A with him.

Narducy: Robert Pollard is a force of nature. He drinks more beers than you, writes more songs than you and influences more songwriters than you. And he still gets that leg kick way above his head. When I played in Robert Pollard’s band, we would all stay at his house in Dayton during rehearsals. One of my favorite memories from those years was when he and I would sit in his “Florida Room” (screened-in back porch), drink beers and play songs on acoustic guitar. “What else do you know, Baby J?” That was his nickname for me. It was like a campfire jam but with an indie rock icon. Eventually, we decided to try this at a show. In the video below, Bob and I play “I Am A Scientist” at Chicago’s Metro in 2007. He forgot the words, but the crowd was happy to help out.
