From The Desk Of Liam Finn: Connan Mockasin’s “I’m The Man, That Will Find You”

Liam Finn could rightly be identified as a world citizen. The New Zealand native was a globetrotting toddler, accompanying father Neil Finn on Crowded House tours, repeating the experience as a young adult with his own band, the renowned Betchadupa. To record FOMO, the sophomore follow-up to 2007 solo debut I’ll Be Lightning, Finn relocated to London, but moved to New York City three years ago. Finn’s third solo set, The Nihilist, runs the gamut of his genetic and experiential influences. Finn will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our new feature on him.

Connan

Finn: Connan is a rare individual. He’s been making music for 15 years, and has uncompromisingly followed his muse to wherever feels the most exciting. His Forever Dolphin Love and Please Turn Me Into The Snat started gathering a lot of excitement a couple years ago, and he’s been busy touring the world, written a song for Charlotte Gainsbourg, led her band over 2012/13, and now has a second record called Caramel. His unique style of self-recorded, woozy, psychedelic-soul-bla-bla-bla has made for one sexy as hell record. The video for “I’m The Man, That Will Find You” is fantastic, and made the creation of the term “creepy sexy” somehow seem alright.
