From The Desk Of A Sunny Day In Glasgow: It’s Not A Secret, It’s Just Something I Like To Do

It’s no longer an aberration for artists to collaborate in the cloud, given the ease with which most of the world accesses high-speed internet. And A Sunny Day In Glasgow—collectively based in Philadelphia, Brooklyn and Sydney, Australia—creates the sort of impressionistic guitar pop that feels ripe for working in the ether. But that doesn’t mean the process of writing fine new album Sea When Absent (Lefse) across three cities and two hemispheres was ideal. In fact, the method was so present that it became a centerpiece of its narrative. The band will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our new feature on the band.

Jen Goma: I love the Jersey Shore, although I’ve only ever been there twice during “the season.” I try to go as much as I can in the “off-season.” The hotels are a lot cheaper, so you can stay in a really bonkers place in Atlantic City, where you can get a room that faces the ocean. And the year-round places wear their open-ness like a badge of honor. Just a couple of year-round places I really like, or at least go to because they’re always open are: The Silverball in Asbury Park, which is a pinball museum that lets you play all of their games as much as you want for $10 an hour.

The Lobster House in Cape May, where you can dine in or take it on the road. I bought a lollipop shaped like a lobster there once and dropped it as soon as I walked out the door; they had a pretty lenient return policy. And we always stop by Jilly’s in Ocean City, they do not have a bathroom for you to use but, they do have 10-cent ski ball and all of the arcade essentials: Jurassic Park, Cruisin’, Area 51, Guitar Hero, Air Hockey and one of the hardest commercial-airline flight-simulator games I’ve ever tried to play. And the other year round place is the beach. Just run in, scream and run out, and that’s swimming.
