You probably know Brett Netson from his work with Built To Spill and Caustic Resin. Now he’s back with the excellent Scavenger Cult EP, credited to Brett Netson & Snakes. Netson will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week.
Netson: There are a lot of people making kick-ass guitar effects pedals and custom amps and guitars. As the music biz is at its worst time ever, the resources for superior manufacturing in music equipment on a smaller human scale is at an all-time high. And I am all for it.
If you don’t have the money for a snazzy boutique amp or pedal, there are kits you can buy and there are books to read. There is still new old stock in the world, too, but I’m not going to tell you where to get that. You can learn to solder. I believe in you.
