From The Desk Of Brett Netson: SST Records

You probably know Brett Netson from his work with Built To Spill and Caustic Resin. Now he’s back with the excellent Scavenger Cult EP, credited to Brett Netson & Snakes. Netson will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week.

SST

Netson: All I know is that nearly everything on SST is above and beyond any kind of predictability or style. I just came across Opal’s Happy Nightmare Baby, so it’s been on my mind. Most of the records sound like shit, but goddamn if all the truly unique weirdos in the world didn’t make records for this label. There are many stories of mistreating of bands financially years later but, this thing happened, and however the hell it happened, people were able to find the most exciting and unique music ever made. When you can find Zoogs Rift, Screaming Trees, Hüsker Dü, St Vitus and Opal in the same place, that to me is a sane and beautiful thing. That makes this short shitty life a bit easier to deal with.
