From The Desk Of Ash: YouTube

Ash is back after eight years with sixth album KABLAMMO! (Edel/earMusic). The Northern Ireland trio—vocalist/guitarist Tim Wheeler, bassist Mark Hamilton and drummer Rick McMurray—will be on tour supporting the LP in the U.K. starting later this month. Ash will also be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week.

McMurray: TV has become obsolete with the rise of YouTube. It kind of sums up all that is great about the internet. It’s a mine of information about whatever you want to discover. History, science, politics, religion, not to mention great for learning new drum licks and techniques. I love a good conspiracy theory, too, and there are plenty of those out there. It beats watching the official broadcast on TV at any rate. This is quite a general choice, but it’s kind of a habit I’ve gotten into when I go to bed. The kids go to bed early, so we’re usually in bed around 10 o’clock. My wife is usually asleep by then, but I’m used to just getting my phone out and watching weird things on YouTube. I like it, the fact that there doesn’t seem to be really any laws imposed on it. People can put up their own content and talk about whatever they want to. It’s sort of like getting into the minds of these crazy strangers. I think everything on TV covers a very narrow spectrum of stuff. Since having a kid, I’ve kind of viewed adult TV as almost as puerile as children’s TV. You can find anything on YouTube that you might be interested in, and it definitely broadens your horizon. It can be a great tool if used correctly. However, my eldest daughter is addicted to it as well. She found this My Little Pony video a couple of weeks ago, and it was set to the theme from The Nightmare Before Christmas, “This Is Halloween,” and I looked over and it was Rainbow Dash getting dismembered. Her legs had been chopped off and stuff and she was just sitting there laughing. But I guess that’s the price you have to pay for having something so uncontrolled.

Video after the jump.
