From The Desk Of Albert Hammond Jr.: Motorcycles

Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. just released his third album, Momentary Masters (Vagrant/BMG). Now sober, married and living in upstate New York, Hammond has made his finest solo effort to date. We asked him to guest edit magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our new MAGNET Feedback feature with him.

Hammond: I live upstate near Route 97, which is a most magnificent scenic route for motorcycles. Clearly, I’ve seen Bill And Ted’s Excellent Adventure too many times. I’ve made friends with my mechanic in Brooklyn, 95 Union Street. I wish I knew how to do all the things he does. It’s so wonderfully creative but also physical. Something about that kind of work that is most satisfying. (Bill and Ted.) My dream would be to start a motorcycle club where we leave at 5 a.m. and do rides around NYC. I’m trying to get Red Bull and Ducatti to sponsor me driving cross-country. There is something about motorcycles that intrigues and scares me at the same time and that combination seems to always grab my attention.
