From The Desk Of Matt Pond PA: Orange Amplifiers And Love

Matt Pond PA‘s The State Of Gold is of a piece with the singer/songwriter’s previous work in its tension between plaintive longing and earnest affirmations. Paradoxically, it’s a confident album about having doubts; it looks outward as well as inward. Pond will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our new feature on him.

Pond: I’ve never known the right moves. Not with business, not with women, not with friends. In a certain sense, I’m proud of myself for winging it as well as I have. I know so little. But I know this: my Orange amp has never let me down. Sure, the tubes need to be replaced regularly. Especially after they start sounding glassy in small towns where music stores don’t exist. Sure, I could use a few years of guitar lessons before I join the official rock ‘n’ roll parade. And yes, spilling a beer into the grill will set you back a good amount of time and money. But no amp has ever been so consistent. From living rooms to rock clubs, my amp does it every time. I love the rich, full sound, from quiet to loud. I love the simplicity of the knobs. I love the color. I love you, Orange.
