From The Desk Of Vanessa Carlton: Tracy Anderson

Liberman is Vanessa Carlton’s latest solo set and fifth overall. With classical-motif tracks like “Blue Pool,” “Take It Easy” and backward-masking-dense closer “Ascension,” Carlton has seriously upped her game, and is now composing complex etudes that easily eclipse her chiming Grammy-nominated hit from 2002, “A Thousand Miles.” Carlton will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our feature on her.

Carlton: This woman knows what’s up. It’s so easy to travel and practice her dancing and exercises. It’s super fun, it makes sense in a genius level way, it satisfies the ballerina in me, and I can watch one of her real-time streaming classes or do her DVDs anywhere. I’ve turned the shittiest backstage dressing rooms into a mini dancehall sweat lodge. All you need is a computer and two sets of strappy Velcro weights. Also in terms of vanity, Tracy Anderson has gotten me into such good shape after having a baby. It’s as if I’m still taking ballet three hours a day, but I just do 45 minutes to an hour as many days as I can. I’m obsessed with how effective and creative her moves are.
