The Captain’s Son hails from Long Beach, Calif., which is very fitting given these Golden State warriors sound like most of the good stuff that has come from the state. You’ll hear snippets of psych, surf, classic Laurel Canyon, some country and more modern touchstones as well. After a handful of singles and EP, the trio—guitarist/vocalist Paige Byrd, bassist/vocalist William Hopkins and drummer Jarred Hayden—is releasing debut album Feel Good Slam-Pop For Animals this fall. “Will It Last?” is the first single from the self-produced LP.
“‘Will It Last?’ was written last year sometime and was inspired by moments that feel temporary, especially in relationships,” says Byrd. “Nothing lasts forever as we know, and this song takes a sort of realistic, ‘cynical’ look at it while conveying romantic emotion—mostly in the form of being good without it because you think it’ll end and disrupt you.”
We are proud to premiere “Will It Last?” today on magnetmagazine.com. Check it out now.
