50 years ago today, the Altamont Speedway Free Festival took place. The Rolling Stones, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Flying Burrito Brothers, Jefferson Airplane and Santana played. The Grateful Dead canceled because of the violence that was occurring. Half a century on, still one of rock ’n’ roll’s darkest days.
