MAGNET Television: Q&A With Joan As Police Woman

We became big fans of Joan Wasser around the time MAGNET started back in 1993 via her work with the Dambuilders (which also featured Kevin March, who went on to become Guided By Voices’ longtime drummer). We’ve followed her career closely ever since, first with the underrated Those Bastard Souls, then Antony And The Johnsons, along with collaborations with the likes of Lou Reed, John Cale, Laurie Anderson, Rufus Wainwright, Joseph Arthur, Sparklehorse and Lloyd Cole. In 2002, Wasser introduced the world to her most-excellent alter ego Joan As Police Woman, and she’s been Wasser’s main gig ever since. JAPW has just released eighth album Cover Two (PIAS), a collection of Wasser covering songs by Prince, Neil Young, Blur, the Strokes, OutKast, Talk Talk and more.
