Last week was the official groundbreaking for the permanent home of the Universal Hip Hop Museum. Rap legends such as Chuck D, Grandmaster Flash, LL Cool J, Nas, Slick Rick, Parish Smith (EPMD) and Fat Joe joined the likes of NYC mayor Bill De Blasio, Bronx borough president Ruben Diaz Jr., NYC council speaker Corey Johnson and city council member Diana Ayala at the ceremony in the Bronx. The groundbreaking marks the beginning of the first phase of Bronx Point, a $348 million mixed-use project on the Harlem River waterfront that, aside from the Hip Hop Museum, will feature affordable housing, 2.8 acres of public open space and educational programs. MAGNET photographer Wes Orshoski was there and wants to believe the hype.
