Every week, we’ll be posting a new illustration by David Lester. The Mecca Normal guitarist is visually documenting people, places and events from his band’s 37-year run, with text by vocalist Jean Smith.
New live footage (from a San Francisco show in 1994) was recently posted on YouTube. The set includes “Throw Silver,” which by that time was about 10 years old. I admit to taking liberties with what is a very delicate song, but performance energy is different than recording energy and knowing something so well invites variations on the theme.
