35 years ago today, for the first time in herstory, the three top spots on the Billboard Hot 100 chart were held by solo females: Cyndi Lauper (“True Colors,” number one), Tina Turner (“Typical Male,” number two) and Janet Jackson (“When I Think Of You,” number three). We’ll have to overlook the fact that all three songs were written by men.
