Normal History Vol. 681: The Art Of David Lester

Every week, we’ll be posting a new illustration by David Lester. The Mecca Normal guitarist is visually documenting people, places and events from his band’s 39-year run, with text by vocalist Jean Smith.

There’s a night watch through the field, dark and all alone. Come the morning half light, there’s a tree across the road. Horses rear up twisting putting holes in the stone.

Heaven runs the pinpoint. Echo’s pulse is deep. Red eyes in the picture, echo drops at my feet. In this transpired distance, I reason off the cold. A mire of indifference, echo spills across the road.

I’m here until you find me, I shiver echo’s cold.
Carry back the whisper. Call it echo down below.
