Normal History Vol. 686: The Art Of David Lester

Every week, we’ll be posting a new illustration by David Lester. The Mecca Normal guitarist is visually documenting people, places and events from his band’s 39-year run, with text by vocalist Jean Smith.

I kinda wanna blurt out some Vi Subversa lyrics about denouncing the system that denies her existence, presumably that of an older woman. Being one myself and recalling attending Vi Subversa’s 55th birthday party at her home in London, my god, but didn’t 55 seem old? Yet, we were playing a show with them, and being able to see a few bands around with older members made it seem plausible to go on with music as an older woman in a society that has no use for us beyond granny status.
